BEX MARSHALL - Best female solo acoustic artist in the European Blues Awards 2015/16/17/18. Blues Awards for UK Best Female Blues Vocalist and Best Blues Album of the year (UK BLUES AWARDS 2013) and just recently Bex toured with 'Big Brother and the Holding Company on the last UK tour as the voice of JANIS and has just finished her 60 date US Tour of Australia and will be headlining festivals in Brazil, Norway, UK and USA in 2019.
Bex Marshall’s unique style of guitar playing is a combined technique of slide, blues with electric ragtime and roots pickin’.
Her voice is a powerful melting pot of old black woman’s heartache and jazz diva soul. Bex is a writer of distinction and notability, she pushes the boundaries of blues, her songs have been called timeless, touches of genius and 7 piece band, she is literally a musical tornado.
Bex was born in Devon but now based in London, the product of two very different family's, one blue blooded landed gentry, the other Irish Romany.
As a child at family gatherings her uncles would always play and stand her on the table to sing, at 11 years old she was given a 1963 Gibson Hummingbird by her Uncle David (The Mauraders) and started playing, she got hooked on instrumentals and classical guitar standards which stretched her fingers and gave her a great basis for her own music to develop, flamenco, ragtime, country chicken pickin’, rock and on to blues and roots where she is now in her element.
She always had a passion for travelling, its in her blood and trained as a croupier at 18 began her travels around the world working gaming tables on cruise liners to Park Lane even dealing illegal poker games in Amsterdam. She hitch hiked the coast of Australia on cattle trains and always with a guitar on her back living and storing tales.
Bex has three albums to her name, Bootlace (2002), Kitchen Table (2008) and on Bex’s latest self produced album you will find swamp blues, splashes of gospel and colorful bluejazz all with and lyrically British twist the award winning self produced, ‘The House of Mercy’ (2012).
Booker T at last, a woman who plays guitar like a goddess, sings like an angel, writes like Dylan and smiles like the devil.”
Outlaw Magazine who wrote, “…Bex Marshall’s voice draws up the ghosts of old blues women’s heartaches’”
Classic Rock Magazine UK, “…deserves wider recognition for her spit and sawdust vocals and fluid resonator guitar licks.”
“Her buzzsaw vocals tear through musical complacency like Casanova rending stilled hearts. She wakes up the near dead.”….Laughlin entertainer.
Bex played The London Fleadh Festival alongside the likes of Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Sheryl Crow. The following year Marshall performed four separate sets at the legendary Glastonbury Festival (including the Acoustic, Spirit of 71 Stage and Leftfieldstages)
Guitar World raved, “Guitarist Bex Marshall might hail from Britain, but she’s managed to nail the swampy blues and grooving gospel rock of the American South on her latest album, House of Mercy. Her expressive, gutsy vocals are matched by her confident six-string style, which is exemplified on guitar workouts like ‘Love’ and ‘Bourbon Street.’”
“Blue Tears“ was founded by Naim Korudağ 5 years ago with this ‘extremely talented’ musician on lead guitar/vocals, ‘the animal’ Koray Bali on Drums and Welsh born Bass player/backing vocals Dean Bridges who has been with the band for 2 years.
Blue Tears are not the ordinary cover band, their dynamic approach to music means that the same song is never played the same twice, emotion and feeling and stepping out of the box and letting the atmosphere dictate where the music goes is a big part of the Blue Tears sound. They play a wide selection of Blues, Rock and some contemporary music including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Albert King, BB King, Deep Purple, Bad Company, Santana, Tracy Chapman, Paul Weller amongst a wide repertoire. You can feel the love for music at every gig that Naim brings with his guitar and band members to the audience or even listeners.
